Turmeric
Indian saffron
Turmeric is a spice that has been traded for such a long time that its origin cannot be determined with certainty. It is thought to have originated in South or South-East Asia, perhaps more specifically in India, from where it would have spread throughout Asia, as well as to the Near and Middle East, thousands of years ago.
Curcumin, the active substance in turmeric powder and an outstanding antioxidant, is above all known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic action, for treating skin diseases when used externally, for preventing cardiovascular disease and also for its digestive action (protecting the gastric mucosa).
