Maracuya
A tangy taste
A cousin of the passion fruit, the maracuya is native to tropical regions of South America.
The pulp of the fruit is juicy or gelatinous. Very tart and less sweet than the passion fruit, it contains many small edible seeds.
The maracuya was used in traditional medicine as an anti-anxiety and sedative agent. Still today, maracuya extracts are known to alleviate minor anxiety disorders and facilitate sleep. In addition, its high polyphenol content makes it an excellent antioxidant.
